YOU ARE THE CREATOR OF YOUR COMMUNITY

Hello and welcome back!  Let's talk about one of my favorite topics, community. Community is defined as a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common; a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals. Common attitudes, interests, and goals. I love this!  A powerful reminder about the power of our own influence and decision in who we choose to surround ourself.  

The idea that we can consciously cultivate community is a priority in building the business and life we desire.  Whether you are building a business or a social circle, you get to choose.  But first, let's take inventory. They say we are the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with.  Does this ring true for you?  What is your average?  Is it higher or lower than you’d like it to be?   

How do you grow and level-up your community?  The first question you must ask is who and what do you want to attract in your life?  Once you identify what you want to attract into your life, who do you need to be to make this a reality? Be intentional about how and with whom you spend your time. Protect your energy. Energy is contagious, don't become the person you're trying to avoid! Yes, there will always be negative people we can’t entirely avoid but we can limit our exposure and engagement with them.  Is there a toxic relationship you need to courageously let go of that’s in the way of your progress and growth?  

Is there a new environment you can engage in through a club, organization, or community group that is like minded and shares similar interests?  Where can you volunteer?  Look to the areas of your life where you are already showing up.  When you consider your sphere and community, who could you connect to further someone else’s goals? How could you level-up your contribution? How can you support, encourage, and give even more? 

Take a moment and think about the most influential person in your life.  Why are they so influential and impactful?  How did they get your attention and admiration?  How do they show-up in the world?  How do they show up for you?  My guess would be they’re go-givers, they give more than they take. They have a particular mindset and attitude about life that makes you want to listen and learn from them. 

You are the creator of your community.  We all share a universal desire for authentic connection, be the one who shows-up differently.  This week, what can you consciously contribute, learn, or ask that would be a vote for the community you want to cultivate? As always, stay open, brave, and on-purpose.
