10 TRUTHS ABOUT ENERGY
It's May, and as we transition deeper into spring, I find myself reflecting on our most precious resource: ENERGY. Not the kind that powers our homes, but the vital force that fuels our bodies, minds, relationships, and motivation. With flowers popping up and everything coming back to life, don't you think it's a great moment to take a fresh look at how we're managing our personal energy?
10 Truths About Energy (our most valuable currency):
1. Energy Is Contagious
Have you ever walked into a room and immediately felt the tension? That's because energy transfers between us, often without a word being spoken. The energy you bring into a space is your silent contribution to every person you encounter. Be intentional about what you're broadcasting!
2. Everyone and Everything Holds and Carries Energy
Every person, space, and object carries its own energetic imprint. We sense these energies intuitively. It's why certain people and places rejuvenate us while others drain us. By recognizing this truth, we become more deliberate about who and what we surround ourselves with.
3. When We Slow Down, We Can Better Know Our Energy
In our rushed lives, we often operate on autopilot until we crash. Taking even a minute to pause and check in with ourselves creates awareness. How am I feeling right now? Where am I holding tension? This awareness becomes our foundation for all energy management.
4. We Can Shift Our Own Energy
No matter what external circumstances we face, we have the ability to shift our internal energy. When my energy spirals downward, I have reliable reset buttons: a brisk walk, deep breathing, changing my environment. The most powerful shift often comes from the simplest action: changing your perspective!
5. Our Energy Changes Throughout the Day and Creates Rhythms
Our energy naturally ebbs and flows. Instead of fighting these patterns, work with them. Schedule demanding tasks during your peak energy hours. Use low periods for gentler activities. When we honor these natural rhythms, we function at our best without burning out.
6. We Have Energy Habits That Shape Our Days
We cultivate patterns in how we generate, maintain, and deplete our energy. Some serve us well: morning routines that center us or boundaries that protect our peace. Others drain us: checking email first thing or saying yes when we mean no. Identify these patterns to design a routine and life that sustains rather than depletes your energy!
7. Energy Impacts Our Physical, Mental, and Emotional Well-being
Our energy levels directly affect our immune function, cognitive capacity, and emotional regulation. When energy is compromised, everything suffers. When it's abundant, we think clearly and connect deeply. Protecting our energy isn't a luxury—it's a necessity!
8. Our #1 Enemy Is Lack of Energy
Without sufficient energy, even small tasks become overwhelming. Many of us have normalized exhaustion, mistaking caffeine jolts for true energy and busy schedules for purposeful living. Real energy feels different—it's sustainable, centered, and life-giving rather than life-draining.
9. Energy Either Builds or Prohibits Trust
When someone's words align with their energetic state, we trust them. When there's a disconnection, we sense it immediately. People don't just hear what we say; they feel who we are. Our energy speaks louder than our words ever could!
10. Energy Is Our Greatest Currency
Time is precious—but energy gives time its value. An hour of focused, vibrant energy accomplishes more than three hours of foggy exhaustion. Some activities are investments that generate energy returns, others are expenditures, and some are simply drains. Invest where energy multiplies rather than diminishes.
The Real (and Hidden) Energy Drain: Our Relationship with Expectation
The gap between how we think things "should" be or how we think things "should" play out and what actually IS can become our greatest energy drain—or our most powerful teacher. When expectations aren't met, we can spend our energy on disappointment and resentment, or approach the gap with curiosity. Ask yourself: Will this matter in 5 months? 5 years? Some of my most disappointing moments have preceded my greatest growth!
