THE NEXT 90 DAYS
Welcome back! Let’s chat about the number one influence on your next 90 days. Mindset. Yes, yes, a word used a lot these days but stay with me. The quality of our mindset determines our disposition, our attitude and behavior. It’s the lens in which we filter our world--the challenges and the wins. Our mindset influences what we believe is possible. In my experience, believing in the power of an optimistic mindset is an easy sell (see a bazillion studies) but retaining one over the long-term requires a commitment to deliberate work. Every. Single. Day.
What (or who) am I giving my attention and energy to right now and how is it impacting my attitude? On a scale from 1-10 (10=full tank, 1=running on fumes), how would you rate your mindset? Today, I want to share two strategies I use when I find my mindset tank running low. When I need more than an inspiring routine, book, podcast, or long walk with a friend to shift and fuel me.
Remember when…
Go back to a time when you were feeling optimistic, and your growth mindset tank was full. Pen to paper, remember the granular details about yourself and your life. Ask, what else was true? What disciplines and decisions were I making? Who was I spending time with? How was I fueling my mind and body? Sometimes we need a reminder of what works. Whenever you find yourself experiencing a mindset that is serving you, take detailed notes, reflect on how it feels so you can borrow it later. Create a list of easy and small tactical things you can reach for or do to begin the shift.
Future cast…
This strategy requires a bit more imagination and can be powerful! If I were someone who_______ then I would_______. Imagine the future version of yourself, reaching the goal, achieving the one thing you’re working on right now. See it with deep clarity and detail, unpack it. What mindset would you have? What decisions and disciplines would you commit to right now? What would you prioritize? What would you be thinking and how would you talk to yourself?
We all struggle with mindset from time to time, it’s the human condition. If you find yourself here, give these exercises a try! The more we know about ourselves the better able we are to rewire and create new neural pathways in our brain to help get unstuck. Mindset is a muscle; it requires attention to maximize its capabilities. There’s a contagion element to mindset so if you find yourself carrying the good kind this week, spread the energy!
